CineFest announces short film competition for young filmmakers

21st CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival, Miskolc, September 5-13, 2025

This year, between September 5 and 13, the CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival invites film lovers to Miskolc. The theme of this year’s CineFest Our Home Miskolc program is the historical relationship between Miskolc and Košice, and their subsequent cooperation as sister cities. In preparation for the festival, the “North Hungarian Regional Film Fund Miskolc” and the University of Miskolc are launching a short film competition.

Hungarian and Slovak youths between the age of 14 and 34, students or groups of students can submit films made after January 1, 2023, in any genre, on the theme of “The historical relationship between Miskolc and Košice.”

Entries may be recorded using any equipment, such as a camera, mobile phone or tablet, and should be between 00:30 and 03:00 minutes in length. The aim is to showcase the values of Miskolc and Košice that make them worth visiting for young people and to present their attractions.

(We expect Slovak applicants to submit works presenting Košice, and Hungarian applicants to submit works presenting Miskolc).

It is important that the works created and presented during the program focus on the history, culture, and values of Miskolc and Košice, as well as the relationship between the two cities. The good relationships formed within the framework of the project will help foster cultural ties between the two cities in the future.

A special professional jury of the festival’s “Our Home is Miskolc” program will select the three best works (the three best short films made by Slovak youth and the three best short films made by Hungarian youth), the creators of which will receive a CineFest gift package and will be guests of the festival for one day, where they can attend the screening of their films. The winners will be announced and the entries will be screened at a workshop organized as part of the CineFest Our Home Miskolc Program, followed by the Miskolc-Kassa Cultural Mini-Conference.
